Pure and Peaceful Music: Rain Clears, Mist at Dusk

Feng Yansi · Five Dynasties period

The rain has cleared, evening mist lingers; green water newly fills the pond. A pair of swallows flies into the willow court; the little pavilion's painted blind is rolled up high.

At dusk I lean alone upon the vermilion rail; in the southwest a new moon, curved like a brow. By the steps the fallen petals rise upon the wind; in my silk robe I feel the spring’s chill especially keenly.

Reading notes

绿水新池满 describes the pond newly filled after spring rain. 特地 means “especially” here; the final line evokes spring’s chill felt through a silk robe. Dusk, the crescent moon and fallen flowers form the scene.
