Pusa Man: I Urge You to Drink Deep Tonight

Wei Zhuang · Tang dynasty

I urge you to be well drunk tonight; before the cup, say nothing of tomorrow's affairs. Prize the host's good heart: the wine is deep, and the feeling deep as well.

Only worry that the spring night is short; do not complain that the golden cup is full. Meet the wine and simply laugh — how much of life can a man have?

Reading notes

尊前 also appears as 樽前; both refer to the wine cup, and this page retains 尊. 珍重 is read zhēn zhòng. 明朝, read míng zhāo, means tomorrow. 春漏短 evokes the short spring night; 莫诉 means “do not complain.”
