The Beauty Yu: When Will Spring Flowers and Autumn Moon End?

Li Yu · Five Dynasties

Spring blossoms and autumn moon — when will they end? And how much is known of all that has gone before? Last night the east wind blew again by the small tower; the old kingdom, unbearable to look back upon, in the bright moon.

The carved balustrades and jade steps should still be standing — only the rosy cheeks have changed. I ask you: how much sorrow can there be: it is even as a whole river of spring water flowing east.

Reading notes

栏 also appears as 阑. 了 in 何时了 means “to end” and is read liǎo.
