Washing Creek Sand: Visiting Qingquan Temple in Qishui
游蕲水清泉寺,
寺临兰溪,
溪水西流。
I visited Qingquan Temple in Qishui; the temple stands above Orchid Creek, whose waters flow westward.
山下兰芽短浸溪,
松间沙路净无泥,
萧萧暮雨子规啼。
At the foot of the hill, young orchid shoots lie soaked in the brook; the sandy path among the pines is clean and free of mud; in the soughing evening rain the cuckoo cries.
谁道人生无再少?
门前流水尚能西!
休将白发唱黄鸡。
Who says a man can never be young again? The stream before the gate can still flow west! Then do not, because your hair is white, sing the song of the yellow cock.
Reading notes
萧萧 also appears as 潇潇; this page retains 萧萧. 子规, read zǐ guī, is the cuckoo.
