At the sky's edge the dew upon the bronze palm has turned to frost; the clouds stretch long as the line of wild geese. Green cup and red sleeves, we greet the Double Ninth — the warmth of the people here feels like home.

Purple orchid at the girdle, yellow chrysanthemum in the hair; earnestly I take up my old wildness again. I would exchange my sadness for deep drunkenness — but that clear song, do not break my heart with it.

Reading notes

The Double Ninth falls on the ninth day of the ninth lunar month. 金掌 evokes the bronze palm of an immortal statue collecting dew. 欲将沉醉换悲凉 expresses the wish to replace sorrow with drunkenness.
