How Bright the Moon

Anonymous · Han dynasty

The bright moon, how it shines; it lights my gauze bed-curtain.

Sorrowful, I cannot sleep; I gather up my robe and rise to pace about.

Though they say a traveller's life is pleasant, better to turn and go home early.

I go out of the door and wander alone; this sad thought—to whom can I tell it!

I stretch my neck and go back into the room; my tears fall and wet my clothes.
