A Question About Home

Wang Wei · Tang dynasty

You have come from my home place,

So you should know its news.

On the day you left, before the carved window,

Had the winter plum begun to bloom?

What the poem means

Meeting someone from home, the poet asks one small question: has the plum tree by the carved window bloomed? A familiar detail carries the feeling of missing home.

Meet the poet

Wang Wei was a Tang poet. A question about a plum tree by the window carries the feeling of home.
