Waves Sifting Sand: Rain Drips Beyond the Curtain

Li Yu · Five Dynasties

Beyond the blind the rain drips on; the mood of spring is fading. The silk quilt cannot bear the cold of the fifth watch. In dreams I did not know I was but a stranger here, and for a moment I greedily took my pleasure.

Alone, do not lean upon the railing: the endless rivers and hills. Parting was easy, meeting is hard. The water flows, the flowers fall, spring is gone — heaven, and the world of men.

Reading notes

江山 also appears as 关山; this page retains 江山. The fifth watch is the period approaching dawn.
