Partridge Sky: Meeting Yuxiao Before the Wine Cup
小令尊前见玉箫。
银灯一曲太妖娆。
歌中醉倒谁能恨,
唱罢归来酒未消。
Before the wine-cup I saw Yuxiao sing a little air; by the silver lamp, that one song was so enchanting. Who could grudge being drunk in the midst of such singing? The song ended and I came home, the wine still not worn off.
春悄悄,
夜迢迢。
碧云天共楚宫遥。
梦魂惯得无拘检,
又踏杨花过谢桥。
The spring is hushed, the night far-reaching; the blue sky and the palace of Chu are equally distant. My dreaming soul, forever unbridled, treads once more the willow catkins and crosses Xie Bridge.
Reading notes
Yuxiao refers to a woman in this lyric, rather than literally to a jade flute. 倒 in 醉倒 is read dǎo. Xie Bridge is an image associated with seeking the beloved.
