Endless Longing: Ever Longing

Yan Jidao · Song dynasty

Long, long the longing; long, long the longing. If you ask when this longing will ever end — not until the hour we meet again.

Long, long the longing; long, long the longing. To whom can I tell this longing? A shallow-hearted one would never know.

Reading notes

甚了期 asks when the longing will end; 了 is read liǎo. 似 in 说似谁 is read sì and means “to”; another version has 说与谁, “tell whom.”
