Seeking My Friend Hu

Gao Qi · Ming dynasty

Crossing water, then crossing water again;

Looking at flowers, then more flowers.

On a riverside path in the spring breeze,

Before I know it, I reach your home.

What the poem means

The traveler crosses water again and again, stopping to enjoy flower after flower. A spring breeze follows the riverside path, and the friend's home arrives almost unnoticed.

Meet the poet

Gao Qi was a Ming poet. Repeated words give a spring visit to a friend a gentle, happy rhythm.
